My First Weeks As An Intern

I've completed the first two weeks of my internship with Banisters Leadership Academy, a non-profit organization located in Omaha. During the first two weeks I did a lot of office work but I also worked with the kids at the weekend events. That was a lot mre fun than just sitting in front of a laptop all day.
Banisters Leadership Academy is part of a job and career exploiration program called Step-Up Omaha. The students had to go through an application process to get accepted to the program. There were 2000 applicants in total but the program is just able to fund 500 of them. These 500 kids are going to work seperated in groups at different partner sites. The non-profit organization I work for is just one of them.
This week all the coaches from the different partner sites got together for a training before the program starts next Tuesday. I will be working with fourteen and fifteen year-olds. We will be doing a lot of things to motivate them to think about what they would like to do with their lives. There will be guest speakers coming in to talk to the kids but we will also do different field trips to universities, cultural and historical places, and medical institutions. Beside that, we will talk to them about life and social skills.
I am very excited to start this program. It is not just a great opportunity for the kids, but also a learning experience for me as a coach. I am really looking forward to meet all of them!
