As you might have heard or read already, it’s been snowing
heavily about two weeks ago. It snowed the whole day and it almost felt like it
wouldn’t stop. Even though it was freezing cold outside, Athens covered all in
white looked beautiful! I was a little bit scared when I walked up hill to
school the next week because the ways were still icy and slippery. On this cold
winter weekend some of my classmates invited me to play broomball at the Bird
Arena on campus. That was really fun however a little bit too cold for me since
I was not prepared and didn’t wear warm enough clothes. For the ones who do not
know what broomball is - imagine playing ice-hockey with your shoes on instead
of ice-skates. My feet were literally frozen after the game which we were able
to win by the way.
Surprisingly, the weather got really warm the last days.
Sunday almost felt like a mild summer day with 18 degrees Celsius (65 degrees
Fahrenheit for our American readers). I used the day to hang out with some
classmates from the Global Leadership Center. We cooked tacos for dinner and
did homework together. They also helped me writing and updating my resume for
internship applications for this summer. I am planning on working for a non-governmental
humanitarian organization in San Diego or the Carlsbad area. But I could also
imagine interning for a campaign office. Especially at this time it would be
really interesting since the presidential elections are just around the corner.
Classes are starting to get extremely busy: first exam next
week, a 6-page paper due soon, and lots of other assignments, plus the usual
homework, readings and so on. In GLC we finally got to choose in which group we
are going to work on the project. We already started to brainstorm and did research
about each of our topics. I am glad to be in the Cyber Security group. We
figured out that we are all very interested in how terrorists are currently
using the internet within social media to hack current systems and recruit
members. The group work consists of a step-by-step development of a Policy
Memo. On top we will get the chance and go to Chicago in April to give a final
presentation about our work.
