As promised in the last blog post, here is the #GLCtoDC adventure! (Also, I know that Philipp already used that title, I’m just not creative enough to think of something else. So, deal with it!)
After weeks and weeks of working on our project it was finally time to present them in Washington, DC. I think it’s fair to say, we were all very nervous. Sure we had practiced, but the people we were presenting to really knew what they were doing. Someone from the State Department, a man who had retired from the Pentagon and the Vice-President of Salzburg Global, an organization that does exactly what we did, just in real-life.

My group went last, which did not help my anxiety. But before I knew it our 10 minutes were over, we got a little bit of feedback, and we were out the door. I still don’t know how it really went. It’s kind of a blur. However, I did learn a lot from my GLC experience. Our projects were challenging and it was great to work together with others and try to come up with solutions for these real world problems. I feel like after these 10, very intense, weeks I could handle anything. My problem solving skills have improved drastically, which is definitely an advantage for my new internship.
Let’s move on to the real exciting part of this trip: sightseeing in DC.
Washington Monument at night |
A group of us, the unfortunate souls who are not of legal drinking age, opted for a late night walk along the National Mall, instead of a night on the town. I also got to practise finding my way through the Metro System, something that surely will come in handy once I'm in New York. Sure, it was great getting my picture in front of the White House in beautiful sunny weather, but the monuments by night are even more spectacular. I touched the Washington Monument, which made me feel a little bit American, and visited Abraham Lincoln. I also took way too many pictures of everything. I’ll only include a few here. Since it was still pretty hot, even though it was 11.30 pm, we went on a journey trying to find ice cream. We walked for an hour all over Washington, DC. The upside to that was that we got to see the beautiful residential neighborhoods and George Washington University. And just as we were about to give up, we found mediocre frozen yogurt, but believe me in that moment it was the best thing ever!

All in all, I absolutely fell in love with DC and the trip was a success. So was the Global Leadership Center. I’m going to miss everybody. I can’t believe it’s finals week and in a few days people will be moving on to new adventures. The semester went by far too quickly. But I sure will take a lot from my experiences at Ohio University, and no, not just the OU sweatshirt I got. ;)
In two weeks I’ll be in New York, it’s crazy.
I’ll miss you Athens, you’ve been good to me.
