A Rough Week and Some Good News

Last week was rough.
The deadlines I mentioned last time just don’t seem to go away. Instead, as the semester draws to a close, they are piling up. Everyone is anticipating May when this craziness is finally over, at least that seems to be the general consensus. Personally, I also experienced a series of unfortunate events regarding my phone. I won’t go into detail. My father always said that talking about bad luck only attracts more bad karma, and I really don’t need any of that! What I can say though is that because of these unfortunate events, none of these pictures are mine. So all credit goes to their respective owners (I’m trying to stay out of legal trouble here…)
(C) Athens News. The Bobcat Baseball Team
As Cynthia mentioned, it’s the small things that keep you going. On friday Chris took me to my very first Baseball game. The only thing I really knew about the sport is that “There’s no crying in baseball” (It’s a “A League of Their Own” reference - google it! Watch it! You won’t regret it ;) So obviously, he had to explain a whole lot to me. The Bobcats were facing Bowling Green State University, and after a while I got really into it. Now, I was not as enthusiastic as some people attending, who kept screaming at the players, but it was still a lot of fun. Unfortunately, we lost, but the experience was still great. It was also my first time hearing the American anthem. Nobody sang, but I did show my respect by standing up. It is a little strange though, I don’t think this would ever happen at a German game. If it’s not an international game, nobody thinks to stand up and play the anthem. But as Chris told me, in the US every Little League game gets this treatment. Patriotism at it’s finest!
(C) OU Facebook page. The Cherry Blossom trees are finally blooming!
Now to the super exciting news, that definitely cheered me up over the weekend. I finally have an internship! Details about that will come in a later blog post but I can already reveal that this summer I’m going to spent in New York City, which has always been on my list of places I needed to see! I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that it’s finally happening now!
But first, the GLC is off to Washington, DC to present our projects. DC is also on that list, by the way. I’m nervous but I think my group is in pretty good shape. We’re leaving tomorrow so I will report back in the next blog entry on what happen there.
