Spring Break Part II (aka the Snowpocaplypse)

This blog post was supposed to tell you all about the crazy things I did over Spring Break, instead you get this. If you want to read about adventure you should go to Philipp’s or Theresa’s blog posts, where I’m sure they’ll tell you about their trip to New Orleans. Here is my less fun Spring Break story:

After turning down my friend who was vacationing in Florida, Ingrid and I talked about wanting to go to Boston. Ingrid is from Norway and in my Feminist Theory class and we’ve become friends over the last couple weeks (International Students unite!). However, it is even colder in Boston, so we quickly discarded that idea. She did connect me with someone in Columbus though. I really wanted to go to the Columbus Zoo. I have a strange love for zoos; it goes back to my childhood, I just can’t help it. So I booked my bus ticket, finished up some school work so that I could enjoy my short trip. Until the day I was supposed to leave, and the universe decided that it would be a great time for 12 inches of snow! This lead to my bus being canceled and me being stuck in my apartment, completely snowed in.

I was super disappointed!! I was really looking forward to get out of Athens for a little while. Sure, it’s absolutely beautiful here, but you very easily get stuck in a routine...
But enough complaining! Because this way I can report about the ghost town that Athens turns into during Spring Break. Because while I was upset with all this snow, I couldn’t deny how pretty everything looked; see all these pictures as prove! I also got a chance to go sledding down some hills on campus, which made me feel just as much as a kid then going to the zoo would.

Now, we’ve been back to class for a week already and things are going pretty well. I got my midterm grades back and am really happy about those. And our GLC project is moving along nicely. I’m in a group with Cynthia and 3 OU students, Claire, Ryan and Morgan. We are focusing on finding a way to stop ISIS (or DAESH) recruitment in Afghanistan, a challenging and complex but very important issue. This, alongside my other schoolwork will definitely keep me busy until I can hopefully plan a trip that is further than a 30min car ride from Athens ;).
