Spring Break Part I

Poster for the GLC Fundraiser
This past week has been relatively uneventful, since it was the last week before Spring Break. But on Thursday we had the GLC Fundraiser at Jackie O’s, which was super fun. I discovered that one of my group members, Ryan, is a great drummer and even our TA Justin pitched in. I have seen a few live bands in Athens now and so far they have all been good. Jackie O’s is a staple in Uptown Athens. Whether it’s for the wide variety of beer that is brewed in house or the food. But I don’t think I should write about food again! ;)
One of the few exciting things that happened was a fire scare on Friday. As I was walking down Court Street police cars and a fire truck came rushing by me. Next to Bentley Hall (one of the classroom buildings) is a construction site and evidently something caught fire. There was smoke everywhere. But nobody got hurt and apparently it wasn’t a big deal at all, because an hour and a half later I had class in Bentley and everything seemed fine.
Also, short update on the mysterious roommate. I am not living with a ghost! I know, I was relieved too. Here’s the deal: as a sophomore you can only live off campus if you are in a fraternity, which my roommate is. But last semester they got into a little bit of trouble and were kicked off campus. Which means he had to move back into the dorms. And on top of that he was unable to get out of the lease of the apartment. Which is terrible for him, but it also means that I get a bathroom to myself…

Now, it’s finally Spring Break and for an entire week I get to sleep in and not worry about essays and papers! Unfortunately, my travel plans fell through last minute, so I’m just going to explore Ohio a little more. But more about that in my next blog...
